Or should every school with a gifted child get an all-day, every-day “inclusive” gifted program, where gifted students learn among their other gifted students and adhere to instruction tied to state standards?įor Duval’s leaders the latter option is better, they said, especially since the district’s new gifted screening is identifying many more students who may needed gifted services. Over the past year, parents of gifted students have argued via email and at School Board and community meetings about which strategy is best for children with high intellectual abilities. But in Duval County, gifted parents don’t always speak with one voice. Parents of gifted students are often the most vocal parents at schools.
